Deputy Mayor Kirk Lewis announced Detroit's certified affiliate status with Keep America Beautiful April 24, which will serve as the city's umbrella organization for cleanup, beautification and adoption efforts, which will promote safer, healthier, more livable communities.
Keep Detroit Beautiful will partner and work with local civic organizations, city services and citizens to facilitate local beautification projects in Detroit. The goal of the partnerships is to inspire communities to improve their neighborhoods by promoting recycling, tree planting and other beautification activities while also focusing on curbing litter and graffiti and other forms of blight. Keep America Beautiful works to build communities by engaging and educating citizens while also employing a hands-on, do-it-yourself approach to the to the project.
The Keep Detroit Beautiful Taskforce was created by the late Detroit City Councilmember Kay Everett and Councilmember Brenda Jones led the project until 2012, when the taskforce became an official affiliate of the of KAB.
